NinjaHacks – Organising the first-ever high school hackathon in Limassol with MLH
In 2016 I had the honour to be part of the organization team that managed to find sponsors such as Github, Starbucks, Microsoft, and Bank of Cyprus so that we could organize our very own high-school hackathon. The event venue – a hotel that we managed to book for 48 hours so that our fellow students could attend. The first 8 hours consisted of rigorous workshops provided by GitHub themselves, which we taught to students who were unfamiliar with coding and version control systems.
The next step was for each attendee/group to choose their ideas and start working on them. The next 30 hours would be crucial, as students would have to time their projects to be ready before the evaluation time the next day. Of course, the organizing team was always available for any questions that students might have, ready to guide and advise them on the best course of action.
The closing of the final day ended with giving rewards provided from our sponsors including hard drives and OneDrive subscriptions to the winners of the hackathon.
